About us

A Kyrgyz team that hosts travelers from all over the world

Nomad Life has worked in tourism in Kyrgyzstan for 5 years. For the last 2 years we have worked only with international travelers, so our guides, routes and service are built around guests who come from abroad.

Every year we run more than 120 tours for foreign guests. We plan the routes ourselves, drive our own comfortable vehicles, and know the yurt camps, guesthouses and families we stay with personally.

Before you travel

What to know before coming to Kyrgyzstan

The essentials for a smooth trip. Rules can change, so check your own case before you fly.

Visa

Citizens of 55 countries, including the USA, UK, EU countries, Canada, Australia, Japan and South Korea, can visit without a visa for up to 30 days in any 60-day period. Others can apply for an e-visa at evisa.e-gov.kg. Apply at least two weeks before your flight.

Passport

Your passport should be valid for at least 6 months after your trip. On the Grand Tour, Kel-Suu is in a border zone that needs a special permit. The permit is included, and we need your passport details in advance to arrange it.

Arrival

Most guests fly into Manas International Airport (FRU), about 30 km from Bishkek. All our tours start and finish in Bishkek. Tell us your flight and we will help you plan the first night.

Money

The local currency is the Kyrgyz som (KGS). Cards and ATMs work in Bishkek and Karakol, but villages, yurt camps and bazaars take cash only. Bring some cash for souvenirs and extras.

Phone and internet

Buy a local SIM card at the airport or in Bishkek with your passport. It is cheap and has good mobile data. In the high mountains there is often no signal at all.

Altitude

Some places on our routes lie above 3,000 m, like Son-Kol and Ala-Kol. Drink plenty of water, move slowly on climbs and tell your guide if you feel unwell.

Weather and clothes

Mountain weather changes fast. Even in summer, nights in yurt camps are cold. Pack layers, a warm jacket, a raincoat and good walking shoes. Each tour page has its own packing list.

Local customs

Kyrgyz people are very hospitable. Take off your shoes when you enter a yurt or home, accept tea when it is offered, and ask before you photograph people.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I book a tour?

Message us on WhatsApp at +996 555 424 461 with the tour name, your dates and the number of people. We confirm free places and the price, and explain the next steps.

How much does a tour cost?

The price depends on the tour, the season and your group size. Send us a message on WhatsApp and we will give you an exact price.

Can I join if I travel alone?

Yes. Our group tours bring together travelers from different countries, up to 12 people per group, so solo travelers are welcome.

I have never ridden a horse. Is that a problem?

No. Before every ride an instructor teaches the basics, and Kyrgyz horses are calm and used to beginners.

How fit do I need to be?

The Spring and Winter tours suit most healthy people. The Grand Tour is more active: an 8 km hike to Kel-Suu and a steep 1 km climb on foot to Ala-Kol. If you are unsure, ask us.

Where do we sleep?

Each night is different: yurt camps, guesthouses, lakeside stays and hotels in Bishkek and Karakol. Every tour page shows where you sleep each night.

What about food? Can I eat vegetarian?

You eat traditional Kyrgyz food. Each tour page shows which meals are included. Vegetarian food is available on request, so tell us when you book.

Is there Wi-Fi or phone signal on the tour?

In towns, yes. At high-mountain places like Son-Kol, Kel-Suu, Altyn-Arashan and Ala-Kol there is usually no signal. It is a good chance to disconnect.

Can you make a private tour on my dates?

Yes. We build private and custom tours around your dates, interests and travel style. Tell us what you would like to see.

Is insurance included?

Yes, medical insurance is included in all our tours.
